Although some of their matches have been close, Milpitas High School varsity volleyball coach Jeff Lamb said hitting errors are hurting the Lady Trojans' efforts.

Milpitas was only able to win one match last week, defeating Leigh High School in four games by scores of 23-25, 25-12, 25-23 and 25-11. The victory gave the Lady Trojans just their second win of the year.

"(Leigh) had a hard time hitting passing the ball, and that worked out for us," Lamb said. "But we're having a hard time hitting, and that's going to be hard for us all season if we continue to have more errors than kills."

That was the case in Milpitas' home match against Silver Creek High School Sept. 9, where the Lady Raiders won in five games by scores of 13-25, 25-15, 26-28, 25-12 and 16-14.

Lamb said Milpitas had 28 kills throughout the match, but recorded 45 hitting errors.

"It was a close match but we had horrible hitting," he said. "It's hard to win any match doing that."

The Lady Trojans fell to Mount Pleasant High School in four games Sept. 8 as well, by scores of 25-14, 18-25, 25-18 and 25-21.

Then Live Oak High School defeated them in four on Sept. 10 by scores of 20-25, 25-17, 25-9 and 25-15.

"Right now we have a confidence problem," Lamb said. "But we have been able to win once against everybody. We know we can play against all of these teams, but we're still having a hard time."

The Lady Trojans are now 2-7 and were at Leland High School Tuesday night, but scores were

too late to print.

They play Sobrato High School in Morgan Hill tonight at 6:30 p.m., and take on Wilcox High School Tuesday night at 6:45 p.m. in Santa Clara.
