The Milpitas High School cross country team competed in the first Santa Clara Valley Athletic League Center Meet of the season last week at Crystal Springs in the hills above San Mateo. The format for the meet was different than previous runs, with each athlete competing only with runners in their own grade level.

Freshman Janessa Tovar finished her race in 23 minutes, 24 seconds and placed 15th amongst ninth-graders. Junior Michelle Luong finished just one second slower than Tovar and placed 24th among 11th-graders.
On the boys side, senior Michael Karp provided the Trojans' fastest time and highest ranking of the day, completing the course in 17 minutes, 12 seconds and placing fifth in his race.
Freshman Alex Liu placed eighth among all freshmen with a time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds. Junior Chris Bangsal finished 10 seconds slower than Liu and placed 29th in his race, while sophomore Ernhow Lee finished in 19 minutes, 17 seconds and placed 28th.
