Dear Editor,

I am not among those who are opposed to the new Milpitas gateway sign on Calaveras Boulevard and Interstate 880. I feel it creates a landmark for future generations and symbolizes the entry point into the hub of our city.

However, for the large sum of money spent on this project, the simple details seem left out. It makes sense to say "Welcome to Milpitas" when you travel east on Calaveras toward Milpitas. When you head out west toward I-880 or state Route 237 to Mountain View, it should have said, "Come Again to Milpitas" or something to that effect. Saying "Welcome to Milpitas" again, does not make much sense when people are getting out of our borders.
