Milpitas High School's track and field team performed well at the finals for the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League, held last week at Los Altos High School. The Trojan varsity squad earned six league titles, with junior varsity adding three more.
Senior Kathryn Daniels was league champion in both the girls discus and shot put events, with fellow senior Luisa Musika finishing second in both events. Senior Carrie Thomas earned league titles in the girls 100- and 200-meter races. Thomas was also part of the girls 400-meter relay team that placed second at the league finals, along with senior Elizabeth Ho, junior Arleen Simbe and freshman Keiana Miley.
Sophomore Winton Nguyen was the league champion in the boys 400-meter race, and placed second in the 200-meter event. Thomas Tang, also a sophomore, gave the Trojans their final varsity league title of the day, winning the triple jump event.
Junior Alejandra Tabaranza won the junior varsity girls discus and shot put events, and sophomore Marco Castaneda won the boys frosh 300-meter hurdles. Sophomore Amerika Mane finished second in the boys frosh shot put event.
Several of the Trojans' top performers at the league finals will participate in the Central Coast Section Qualifier meet tomorrow at Los Gatos High School. The qualifier is the preliminary event to the CCS Championship meet later this month.
