The Golden Hills Art Association will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 6 in the Community Room of the Milpitas Police Department at 1275 N. Milpitas Blvd. There will be a business meeting beginning at 7 p.m. to discuss the association's garage sale Aug. 8-9 and schedule work crews. Members are asked to bring a painting for the club's monthly awards and remember dues are payable in August.
After a brief break for refreshments, well known Bay Area artist and teacher Carolyn Larsen will be performing a demonstration in oils.
Larsen received her bachelor's degree in art education in 1975 and has been fortunate to receive advanced instruction from some of the world's finest instructors since then. She loves the Southwest and enjoys painting there. In Europe her favorite location is the Tuscany region of Italy where she studied the Renaissance and taught watercolors. She has exhibited in local and statewide competitions and has paintings hanging in corporate and private collections throughout the West Coast. Her exhibit is in the Los Gatos Museum Gallery, 24 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos.
Larsen has been teaching painting classes since 1983 and currently teaches oil, acrylic, watercolor and pastels at University Art in San Jose.
The demonstration will be in oils with Larsen showing her "paper towel technique." She applies tones first on the canvas, warm and cool colors, then basic shapes are put in and finally refines the shapes and adds details.
